2011 Homeless Count - Volunteers and Donations Needed Back

/system/medias/35/post/Homeless-coalition.jpg?1294358855The 2011 Homeless Count in Hillsborough County will take place on Thursday, January 27, 2011.  There are many ways individuals and groups can get involved to help their homeless neighbors.

Donate:  Collect and donate new socks and rain ponchos to be handed out as a 'thank you' to our homeless neighbors for taking time to complete the brief survey.

Adopt an Area:  Groups, organizations and faith communities that work with homeless people, neighborhood associations that want to help and any other groups can "Adopt an Area" around their location to conduct the count.

Be a Counter:  Volunteers are needed to canvass the County in 4-hour shifts between 4 a.m. and 11 p.m.  Volunteers work in 3-person teams, with at least one person with experience doing the count,
and focus on designated areas in the County.

Staff the Phone Bank:  Volunteers are needed between 4:30 a.m. and 11 p.m. to answer phones and conduct a brief phone survey with callers who are homeless, including people living doubled up.

Support the Count:  Financial donations are needed to help off-set the cost to conduct the count.  They are critical to the success of the effort as the Coalition receives no federal, state or local government funding for this project.

Assist with Post-Count Data Entry:  Once all the Count survey information is collected, it has to be entered into the UNITY Information Network System.
