Visit Bay areaGrillSmith locations next week to support a local foundation. GrillSmith is holding a “Back to School Week” fundraiser at all Tampa Bay locations from August 22-28, in honor of Calyx Schenecker, 16, and Beau Schenecker, 13, who both passed away tragically this past January.

Shortly after their deaths, their father, Colonel Parker Schenecker, established a foundation in their memory, the Calyx and Beau Schenecker Memorial Fund. “I am dedicating the rest of my life to honoring my children,” the 48-year-old father told People Magazine.

And since GrillSmith was Calyx and Beau’s favorite restaurant, Colonel Schnecker approached them in hopes of honoring his children’s memory, while celebrating their favorite dishes. Consequentially, the idea for the “Back to School Week” fundraiser was born.

GrillSmith will donate 100 percent of the sales generated from Calyx and Beau’s favorite dishes, Caribbean Pumpkin Crab Bisque and Spicy Thai Shrimp, to the Calyx and Beau Schenecker Memorial Fund.

“Calyx and Beau were devoted friends, classmates and teammates. They were everything a parent could ever ask for — responsible, loving and connected to those around them. Both were model citizens, standouts in the classroom and on the sports fields, and big fans of GrillSmith,” said Colonel Parker.

Calyx would have been a junior in the international baccalaureate program at King High School, and Beau would have been a freshman at Freedom High School.

“My family and I would like to thank GrillSmith for their generosity and support,” Colonel Schenecker said. “Relationships were ultimately important to Calyx and Beau, and this opportunity along with friends and family to celebrate the lives of my exceptional children will be a fitting tribute to them. Calyx and Beau would be so humbled and honored by the generosity of so many.”

The Calyx and Beau Schenecker Memorial Fund was established in 2011 to keep their legacy alive by providing leadership, athletic, and performing arts opportunities for gifted Tampa Bay teenagers. For more information, visit Community Foundation of Tampa Bay at cftampabay.org.
