Dalí Celebrates Pride: Little Ashes + Pre-Film Reception Back
On Thursday June 23rd The Dali celebrates Pride with a screening of Little Ashes, along with a pre-film reception and a curator talk. What better place to see this film?
A fictionalized account of Dalí’s early life, Little Ashes (directed by Paul Morrison and starring Robert Pattinson) is a contemporary story about universal themes such as love and relationships, longing, loss and betrayal.
The three main characters - Salvador Dalí, poet Federico García Lorca, and filmmaker Luis Buñuel – were students together in Madrid. The three defied their society’s politics and forged new ground during a time when being an artist was revolutionary, and being a gay or bisexual artist was dangerous.
The 5:00 p.m. pre-screening reception includes light hors d’oeuvres and cava, followed at 5:30 with a discussion of the film led by a Dalí curator. (2008, 112 mins.; R)
Cost: $10.00 for members; $15 for guests. Free to Upper Level Members (Dadaist, Surrealist and Visionary levels)
