Gay Tampa and St Pete: Events for Gays and Lesbians in Tampa Bay Back
We're back from vacation and ready to keep you up to speed on some of the fabulous and (mostly) gay things that are going on in and around the Tampa and St Pete areas! If we miss something, let us know--and check out the myQmunity.com calendar for all the info!
We were lucky enough to be at the opening of Syntax: Text and Symbols for a New Generation: Selections from the Hadley Martin Fisher Collection. The opening night was well attended and full of energy. If you think that art is stuffy, you just haven't seen an exhibit like this. You want to move and talk and go back to the works. Bring some friends and spend a little time and you'll be reworded with works that make you think and maybe even argue about the meaning. At the Tampa Museum of Art through Sept 25. Students are free thanks to a grant. Contact the museum for more info.
In keeping with our, it isn't gay, but it sure is FABULOUS theme, a group of us are meeting at the Tampa Theatre for the Wizard of OZ Sing Along on Sunday July 24th. Ok--we said it wasn't gay--and I am sure there will be kids there too...but let's face it--we are "Friends of Dorothy"! Meet us out front at about 2:30 or look for us up in the balcony.
After receiving rave reviews and a very successful World Premier at Theater Schmeater in Seattle, New American Theater is proud to present "LARK EDEN". This play is presented in our Summer Series as part of NAT’s effort to support emerging artists. New American Theater is a small space that is making a big splash, check it out! This play runs Thursday-Sunday from July 21-31.
Looking ahead, there are some events that you'll want to get on your calendar now, even thought they are a little further out. Most are fundraisers, but some are just great fun.
First up is the 5th annual Strike Out for AIDS Bowling Benefit for Francis House. They are still looking for teams, so get on board, have some fun boawling and do good for our community.
September starts with AIDS Walk St Pete. The actual event is not until Sept 10th, but there is a lot your can do before that. A number of organizations are putting a group together to walk. Check out the ASAP Site for more information and if you can't walk-PLEDGE!
Also in September, lesbian comedian Kate Clinton will be performing her very smart and very funny comedy. If you haven't seen her, you are
in for a treat. If you have seen her--get your tickets now! This show will sell out as it is a fairly small venue. Mark September 23 on your calendar. Tickets are $30 general or $50 for VIP (until July 25 you can only buy the tickets through myQMunity.com where you'll also be entered into a drawing for some really cool prizes)
This year the film festival is Oct 6-16th and we hear that they are bringing back the street fair! The Tampa Bay Business Guild, St Pete Pride and the Tampa International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival will be working together to bring you "A Taste of TIGLFF"! We don't have all the details yet--but we hear it will be on October 15th. More information will be coming your way about sponsoring and attending.
Of course there are all the fun nights at bars and clubs around the area. You can find Gay Bingo, Drag Queen Bingo, Taco Tranny Tuesday and more, just check out Things to Do on myQmunity.com and you'll get your gay on!
