As former House Speaker Newt Gingrich prepares for a likely 2012 presidential bid, he’s slammed Pres. Obama’s recent decision instructing the Justice Department to discontinue enforcement of the Defense of Marriage Act, which defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman. Gingrich said Obama’s decision is unconstitutional and suggested he could be impeached for his decision, though a spokesperson for Gingrich quickly backtracked on the statements afterwards.

The White House announced that Jeremy Bernard, an openly gay man, has been appointed to the position of Special Assistant to the President and Social Secretary.

A Catholic College has fired a gay priest/professor for engaging in a same-sex relationship. Chestnut Hill College discovered the priest had been involved in a 15-year relationship with another man through posts he made to his blog. In a statement, the college said the relationship is “contrary to the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.”

After a student requested a Gay-Straight Alliance, a school district in Corpus Christi, TX responded by shutting down all extracurricular clubs on campus. In doing so, Flour Bluff Intermediate School District is trying to avoid adhering to a federal law — the Equal Access Act — that requires all schools receiving federal funding to offer “fair opportunities for students to form student-led extracurricular groups, regardless of their religious, political and philosophical leanings.”
