The unemployment rate in the Tampa Bay area was listed last month at 11.1 percent, up .5 percent from the month before. Economists who had been saying that Florida was slowly "recovering," aren't really saying that anymore, and getting a job of any sort remains the biggest story in the U.S.
Hoping to address the crises, a job fair will take place on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., hosted by Tampa House Democrat Janet Cruz, that will take place at Higgins Hall, 5221 North Himes Avenue, Tampa, FL 33607.
Cruz says “I heard the message that Floridians were sending to their legislators and I am determined to revitalize Tampa’s workforce, both in Tallahassee and at home."
Cruz represents House District 58, which includes a large Hispanic population. With what she says is nearly 100 businesses expected to be at the event, she's encouraging them to bring bilingual representatives to be able communicate with Spanish speaking job seekers.
“Hispanic and African American unemployment rates have consistently been higher than national and state averages,” says Cruz. “I represent a largely Hispanic district, and since the inception of this job fair that focus has not been lost."
